NPI COMPANY HISTORY

NP International’s tradition of excellence in real estate development is over a century old. A family owned and operated business for 4 decades and over 125 years, NPI has proven itself as an experienced developer and leader in the private real estate development sector.

1890

In 1890, brothers by the name of Nolan began leasing horses to various construction projects. All construction equipment being horse-drawn, their business provided the necessary horsepower for the post-industrial construction of turn-of-the-century America.
“We have been opportunistic and adaptable since the beginning.”

Charles Nolan, Chairman, NPI

They perfected the art of training horses. From hauling to tilling to carrying, the Nolan horses were some of construction’s finest, and the Nolan team embraced their niche with full force.
One day, their horses were rented out to a client who failed to finish their construction job. The Nolans’ horses were already on the jobsite, so they jumped in and completed the work. And so it was by chance and adaptability that the Nolans became not just a horse rental company, but a construction company as well.

And so it was by chance and adaptability that the Nolans became not just a horse rental company, but a construction company as well.
Soon, construction became the team’s expertise. Their jobs evolved with the changing times: from highways to bridges, and from dams to runways, no matter the scope of a project the team was equipped to adapt.
“We’ve worked on everything from
highways to dams to private projects.”

Charles Nolan, Chairman, NPI

Over the next century, the team would dominate several different types of construction project, which correspond roughly to different decades of operation. In the 1930s and 40s they focused on highway expansion. In the 1950s it was strategic air command. In the 1960s they transitioned from large US general contractor work to private development. Every time they adapted to the new environment before them.
“NPI’s history can largely be defined by the decade”
Our company, through its family of closely owned entities, has developed,  built, managed, and wholly owned over 6 million square feet of real estate throughout much of the United States. Our vertically integrated approach thrives on difficult, ambitious projects.
By 2006, Nolan Partners international had developed, built, managed, and owned over 6 million square feet of properties through 9 different markets in the US, and they had completed over $2 billion in construction and development projects. Their strengths proved working on projects other companies deemed too difficult, expanding existing proven models, and creating mixed-use solutions to community problems.
“It was a somewhat straightforward
decision to stay private.”
